Modifying the firmware to drive solenoid valves
July 14, 2014 12:47PM
Hi all,
I am trying to modify the Reprap Prusa i2 to a multichannel liquid handler... I am planning to connect the 3V solenoid valves to the spare I/Os on the arduino mega and program the existing firmware of Prusa i2.
But I have no idea about how to modify the firmware.
Could anyone please give me some general directions about how to modify the firmware? So I can get started on working this.

Thanks

I looked into driving a solenoid and as far as i got was adafruit 5v but theres addition circuitry need to be attached to the ardunio mega but i was considering trying it through the servo pins on a ramps board

Check my rubbish blog for my prusa i3

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the input.
Using sero pins is a great idea, and I found someone had done something similar.

On my side, I connected a 12V solenoid to the fan control pins D9, and able to control it using G code.
Now I am trying to control at least 8 solenoids separately, but have no idea where to start from though.
