Cookie Cutters

A discussion on a completely unrelated site got me thinking about printing custom cookie cutters. Something like these:

It should be fairly easy to create the contour, assuming there's an easy way to convert a height map to a 3D model. All you'd need is to take a line drawing (with maybe a few shaded areas for contours), make a negative and import that as a height map. These types of cookie cutters tend to have a handle on the back as a convenience, though. Not sure that'd be possible without a decent support material.

You could make a separate handle and weld it on with pipe cement if it was ABS.

I've been wondering about occasions like this that appear to need support material, could the reprap software be told that two pieces of thin wood will be placed on the work area, with a gap for the handle? This would work for all simple single-layered overhangs. You could also turn the cutter "complex side down", then print a handle on its back. Not sure if the software will print "floating" objects, but you could always trigger the z-min sensor at the appropriate height. Really like the idea though for the cutters, would a soft plastic make usable ink stamps?
