Print your own laptop

Via have released the designs for their OpenBook laptop under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.

See Computerworld article here:[www.computerworld.com]

The CAD drawings can be downloaded from [www.viaopenbook.com] but you have to do the free registration thing before you can download them.

It looks as if it is just the external panels but even that could give you quite a lot of flexibility to personalise/mod your laptop.

It would be nice if we could slowly add in other parts and build up the design for a laptop (incl. CPU, SSD etc.) that can just be printed out and snapped together using a nth generation Reprap.

Nice. They're following the RepRap model for open hardware winking smiley

Actually, I think creative commons would be more applicable to open hardware designs as opposed to GPL.

I've thought about a laptop stand, which would be possible now. You could then adjust and print one that is suited for your laptop form-factor. You could even change it to accommodate for the cables that you frequently plug in. If there's a good object database, you could (in the future) select the model of the laptop and print accessories.
