Huawei Ascend P6 Phone case (3DS max) - need some help
December 15, 2013 02:13PM
Hello there,

At the moment I am trying to make a smartphone case for the Huawei Ascent P6. My thought process on this was:

-Make a sketch (drawing the outlines of the phome) , scan it and then open it as a background in 3DS max
-Make a chamfer box for the rounded edges
-Copy the box, bevel the sides, make a hole in it via compound objects so the phone fits in
-Imprint the design onto the box with compound objects

My question is, is there any way to match the rounded edges perfectly? Via the chamfer box I can make rounded edges but these are not the same as the rounded edges my phone has. A picture for reference:

Also is the way how I want to approach it the right way, or are there any other practical ways that are much easier to do/with better results?

Thanks beforehand

Scan it in a printer scanner? You might be able to extract the profile

Unfortunately I don't have access to that, hence why I am kind of working it out of scratch.

If the edges are not spherically rounded, you might want to try to use Bezier curves or splines to approximate them. Chances are that the Huawei designers also used them to create the shapes.

If and how 3DS Max allows to use splines I don't know.
