RRRF HDPE spools

Quick question. Does anyone know approximately how many meters are in the 5lb spool from RRRF. I have a price here for 3mm black/white HDPE, 300m reel for AU$50. I'm trying to figure out if this is good/bad/ugly.

Thanks in advance.

P.S the place I got the price from is www.plastral.com.au

Batmark,

Let's see. HDPE has about 0.95-0.97 g/mL according to some random source online--I just did a quick search and picked the first result that had info that I wanted so this may not be totally accurate! :-) For the 2 kg spool we have that comes out to 2105.26 mL of HDPE--2000/.95. To get length from this we need to recognize that V = A * L and that A = Pi*r^2, and V = 2105.26 mL. So, gathering everything together and making sure the units come out correctly we solve for L and get 7,445.8 meters of HDPE.

After getting that result I start to doubt it. That's a LONG bit of HDPE! WTF. I may have done something wrong but it's late and I want to go to bed. Someone check me.

ok....

I just did the same thing as you... except I got 327m. I think that sounds more reasonable.

Damn you making me do maths. This is supposed to be my holidays. smiling smiley

So that makes it twice as expensive as at RRRF. DAMN!

This site [k-mac-plastics.com] says 3mm HDPE is 220ft/lb (147.833175m/kg). The 5lb reel, then, is about 1100ft (335m).

Is 3.0mm right, double check. someone mentioned that the extruder really needs material SMALLER than 3.0mm... like 2.6mm.

Or am I confused?

yup, the RRRF stuff is 3mm. It easily fits through the machined heater barrels and PTFE that I had made, so those must be slightly larger.
