Help needed getting Stepper Motor to work - RAMPS 1.4

I've got everything wired up, just trying to test my stepper motors and running into problems. (Prusa Mendel i2)

I'm powering RAMPS via USB - only have the X Axis Stepper Motor connected and can successfully send
the Sprinter firmware, and I can see COM4 in Pronterface - it's connected but when I try and "move" the X Axis
a little to test - nothing happens.

I've made sure the wiring is correct - Red/Blue/Green/Black and my Molex connector is ok.

Now mind you I don't have anything else connected to my RAMPS board. I read somewhere
that the firmware might be expecting all the endstops wired up - is that true? is that why
the stepper motor isn't turning?

Thoughts...suggestions?
