Latest stable version of Marlin?

It looks like to me the latest stable version of Marlin is 1.1.2 ?.
I see mentioned, bugfix-1.1.X and 1.2 which as I understand it changes the file structure as well as starting support for 32 bit CPU's.

With the advent of 32 bit processing will the firmware be backwards compatible with 8 bit processors?

thanks

Use Bugfix 2.0.0 as a first attempt. That will be the main branch going forward. It should compile every option you specify for AVR's. Some of the 32-bit platforms still need some work to compile.

If you run into a problem getting your setup to compile, please post a message and somebody will jump on it and get it to compile correctly.

The goal is to get 32-bit processors to support the entire set of options in the 8-bit branch. Probably what happens over time is the 8-bit boards can't run every option the 32-bit boards can.
