Jennyprinter 3 , which firmware is correct?
February 24, 2017 05:00AM
Hi,

I have recently bought the Chinese clone of the ultimaker and want to update my firmware to a more customisable version (marlin?).
In order to do so, I need to specify the Mainboard First-it is not listed.
Can one of you experts out there tell me, what I have to do in order to upgrade my firmware?

I can upload the actual FW that is installed right now if that helps.
Thanks in advance!smileys with beer

Regards,
Michael

Hello,

I have the same problem with the Jennyprinter Z360 TS (touch screen). I want to update because current firmware is rubbish.
Does someone know a place where to download software updates for this machine? Otherwise, how easy is it to update to marlin firmware?

Regards,

Wilfred

What is the number on the large black chip?

its its not atmel 1284 or atmel 2560... marlin will be an issue..
It does look like a Ultimaker Generation 2 control board...

so motherboard BOARD_ULTIMAIN_2

Still struggling with better firmware.

"I can upload the actual FW that is installed right now if that helps." This could be very helpfull Michaelsmiling smiley

The rest of the printer is pretty fine, the only major problem is the electronics. The black chips is a STM32F407VET6, which should be supported with MarlinST.

IF that black chip is a STM32F407VET6 then its an ARM based 32bit CPU and the common 8 bit Marlin FW will not work.

There are forks of Marlin developed for 32bit systems but you would have a steep learning curve to get it working I think......

Visually I agree with DUST and it looks like an Ultimaker Gen2 PCB but perhaps reworked for 32bit????

Your likely limited to the orig firmware unless your ready for alot of time put into this.....

maybe smoothieware is the direction you should look?
or RepRap Firmware tho I think smoothieware has a bigger support base......

32bit marlin is in the works but not yet ready....

Hello,

I think the two printers in this thread are different Models

The Printer from Micstar is the 2016 Model and the board looks like a UM Board.
The Printer from Wilfred is the new 2017 Model. There is a other Board/Electronik in use.

New Board

So the Printer from Micstar can run with Marlin
The Printer from Wilfred is difficult

Ahh I see, thought they were struggling with the same board...

Thanx for the clarification there Christian.

I´m trying to update my Board to Marlin 1.1.8
But my first attempt ended in a non functioning LCD (remained black)
Anyone knows, what I did wrong in this config.h?
Do I have to add any libraries to get it working?
Do I have to change something in the other "tabs" in arduino?
In the comments for an Ultimaker 2 (same?) running Marlin I found the following line (and don´t know how to find libraries/Wire/utility/twi.c on my Mac):

#define ENABLE_ULTILCD2 //128x64 pixel display in the Ultimaker 2, with new menus. Note: For compiling with Arduino you need to remove the "SIGNAL(TWI_vect)" function from "libraries/Wire/utility/twi.c"

Michael
