Extrusion width @ 200% for 1st layer question
July 24, 2017 01:04PM

I just switched from Cura to Slic3r and I am liking the increased control. I have done a couple of prints setting the extrusion width to the recommended 200% for the first layer. While printing the first layer, it does rapid fire retractions. See above pic of the skirt. Is it supposed to do this?

Those rapid fire retractions might be just too much pressure in the melt chamber, causing the extruder stepper to be pushed backwards?

I had the same problem, blaming my 0.9° steppers. I print on LokBuild now and use default nozzle width setting for 1st layer.

Another way of dealing with it, is reducing extruder stepper current. It will skip steps instead of pushing to hard until it fails.
