Prusa i3 Hephestos RAMPS & Extruder problem
September 14, 2015 02:12PM
Hi folks!

I finally build my Hephestos and wanted to print. Everything works except the extruder. I plugged the extruder to the x-axis and tried with manually moving the axis and it works. So the extruder is fine.
I have double-checked with the manual and I have connected it correctly. I suspect that there is a mistake in the manual and in the wiki (here) and the
plug for the extruder on RAMPS should be connected in the reverse direction (like the other motor wires).
The support from bq is already contacted, but without a response yet. Could somebody who has a working Hephestos confirm if this is a mistake in the manuals? Or is it maybe an
issue with the firmware?

Thanks in advance,

I think it still should work if backwards.

Hi,

A reverse plug only affect motor's direction,
so it should work but counterclockwise instead of clockwise.

First, there's a low temperature protection.
The extruder won't run until hotend is warm enough.

If it still does not work, when heated,
the extruder's driver has to be cheked
because drivers are fragile, especialy cheap ones.

Try to invert the extruder's driver with the X one,
and test both X and E axis.
If the extruder's driver don't work on the X slot,
consider it out of order.
If the extruder's driver works on the X slot,
and not the X one on the extruder's slot,
maybe your board have a problem.
Eventualy check for dry solderings
or ask for a fully working component.
