He3D Prusa I3 Dual Extruder - Unboxing - Assembly - Testing.
August 24, 2015 03:42PM
Hi everybody in this forum, I would like to show the differents steps of the unboxing, the assembly, and the test of my recent order of this 3D printer from www.reprap.cn.
It's an He3D prusa i3 with Dual Extruder
( you can see this printer available in 2 differents website : reprap.cn and reprapmall.com : [www.reprap.cn] or [www.reprapmall.com] )
I will show you all the parts, the differents positive and negative aspects, the problems with the parts, the assembly and the differents test of printing and configurations.
I would like to tell that I'm new in the 3d printer world at this time, I'm open to all your advices.
I would like to tell that I have no affiliation to reprap.cn, have not been paid to do this.
This is my firt built of an 3D printer and I wanted to try this and then I order this model to make a try.

From their website here are some photos and description of the product that I found :

The full view of the printer assembled

The dual head

Welcome onboard smiling smiley, I thought this he3d uses aluminum at first glance but actually an acrylic, most likely ~6mm thickness and with the letter holes there from what I think, will make the structure even weaker, in addition to the full graphic panel screwed on top of it too.

Have fun anyway smiling smiley

Update of the 08/31/2015 :
After an unboxing and an assembly of this 3d printer :
As there was no paper listing of the different parts and a general instruction of assembly.
I only have the choice of choosing in the different pdf, photos and vidéos included in the sd card which come in the package.
The assembly was not so hard.

The following parts which present problem are :
- The power supply : The S-250-24V instead of the S-400-24V, and doesn't work out of the box. It doesn't deliver any voltage on any output.
- The printed support of the Y axis endstop begins to crack.
- The relay SLA-24VDC-SL-A which come with an inverted output power port which make impossible to put the line inside.
- The head extruder fan which come with one propeller broken out of the box too.
And something minor part like the plugs to connect the thermistors on the ramps were not the package too.
So after emailing the support contact of their Website. I'm still waiting for the differents replacement parts.

That mega looks pretty terribly designed.. the chrystal is VERY far away from the chip. Not good.

I hope the acrylic works well for you. I was scared of acrylic, so got the steel Createc i3 instead.

Interesting Bowden on an i3, especially dual. Not seen that much in a prusa i3.
Re: He3D Prusa I3 Dual Extruder - Unboxing - Assembly - Testing.
September 21, 2015 06:33PM
I agree with you, mine snapped in half during a print run and I traced the acrylic out onto a pice of aluminium and rebuilt the printer properly. A waste of money buying a HE3D printer, their support is terrrible and I will never buy from them again. Buy from Geeetech in the future, they are a better printer anyway.

Hi Qdeathstar
I don't know much about the design of this Mega board, but it seems to works, I hope for a long time of printing too.
What will be your advice then ?

Hi RRuser

I know that the acrylic structure is not as hard as the steel one, but it works good now, fo my 1st test of printing, hope it will last.
Yes it's a Bowden, a double bowden.

Hi johnno
I don't know if it's a waste of money in buying a HE3D 3D printer, but now it seems to work fine for my 1st test of printing, I will see if it last.
The support team is great with me and my request, I really appreciate this.

Some printing test of Blue 1.75mm PLA filament from their shop too on www.reprap.cn

I use Repetier, and I slice using SLIC3R, and use the SD card to do the job

A little Marvin :

you can check the following link of this part : [www.thingiverse.com]

Some LED Bumper:

I have printed in 2 time much bigger

A Star Hollow Vase:

A Fan Duct :

A LCD 12864 Box :
NCS 12864 LCD housing with Mount

A GoPro Hero 4 case :

I print all these parts except the "Led Bumper", directly on a glass, without any glue, tape or hair spray.

Not perfect for my 1st time using a 3D printer and the soft and tuning the Slic3r.
Tell me what do you think of the result of these printing test.

I noticed in your pictures you only showed prints with one color, how does it work with 2? i'm thinking about upgrading mine when i can spare some cash. Also i love the LED lights, i have some strip lighting laying around, I'm going to do the same thing you did.

I have some RGB LEDs and a spare thermisitor, I think ill hook the RGBs to an arduino so that they change color with temperature of the hot-end.

Here is a new printing test with PLA Filament in Green Color from reprap.cn

Hot end temperature : 200°C
Heat bed temperature : 60°C
Using Slic3R : 0.2mm layer
Printing Time each : 03h22mm

See the result and tell me what do you think of these please.

Hi AudaciousTuddle
At this time I only use one color in printing test, I will test in a few days in 2 color and I will update my review on it.
I will upgrade too my light with RGB LED all around the frame too instead of these White one that I actually use.The RGB Led are laying too around my desk. Only have to take time to make these work.
I will print too a Led strip support for the hot end to lighten the printing area.

I will be great if you can share your futur Arduino & RGB led project too.

I purchased a one head version of one of these and assembled it with great care but find NO INSTRUCTIONS as to how to get it printing - I am an absolute newbie to 3D printing and would like to find a step by step guide on how to proceed.

I have done my best to install the software but the machine moves erratically when I try to use the manual function from the software and most attempts at moving anything just end up with the motors locking and making a horrible noise?

Does anyone know where I can find a BEGINNERS GUIDE on how to get this thing to work PLEASE!
