Ramps axis microstepping not working
June 10, 2017 04:18PM
I have nema17 with 1/16 microstepping and firmware configured correctly for 1/16 microstepping ,but when i want it to move motor ,it moves slightly and makes squealing noise noise persist when the motor is not moving . When i disable microstepping and configure the repetier firmaware motor moves normally but very steppy as expected .

Also i have nema 17 on extruder with microstepping and that moves correctly.

Did you tune the stepper current ( Vref )?

How did you set max. feedrate in firmware? If that is set to fast, your steppers will whine like you described.

I set max feedrate to 10mm/s (other motors are 28byj-48) and tried every possible current ,

the 28byj-48 is not a reprap compatable stepper motor [robocraft.ru]

Im surprised it moves at all...

Basicaly all stepper drivers are not the same inside... This one has the two centre coils joined together making it unipolar

Two types bipolar (reprap compatible) and unipolar see [reprap.org] for lots more info

Luckily this type can be modified [www.jangeox.be]

On a modded 28BYJ you shouldn't see jerky moves. It has a huge gear ratio ( IIRC 4096 steps per rev ) so using microstepping will probably overload the controller.

Here's a pic, how you have to mod the stepper. Then use 0.2V Vref or so..

its hardly a nema17 though....

Thank you for answers , i set #define YAXIS_STEPS_PER_MM 640 and now it moves just right .Jumpers on cheap chinese rams from aliexpres may be pre-shorted [www.reddit.com]. but setting steps per mm to 640 solved the issue.
