Prusa i3 ABS Fail
February 09, 2017 09:59AM
Hello,

I have a prusa i3 which prints perfectly with PLA. Very fine details.
However, whenever I print with ABS, it fails and leaves a complete mess.
What it looks like is that the base layer sticks well, however, some layers above it fail to stick, and then tear off a part, or whatever.
Sometimes I get spagetti too.

I'm currently using a cartboard box to keep the heat in, and kapton tape on the printing bed. Is there anything I can do to improve this, other than going back to PLA?

Tnx!!

You can try to increase the brim size.

Use a mylar foil to cover the printer, it should keep the heat a lot better than the box.
Do you have a heated bed? If no get one.

No print fan on and make the ABS run hot. I print most of my ABS at 240c.

Go Back to PLA, ABS is a pain.
A cardboard box won't work but a wood box will.
Try ABS juice on the Kapton tape

Prevent any moving air fro reaching the print.

Just takes a good setup.
I only print in ABS.
Then again when I tried PLA a little last year it was easier by a noticeable amount. Still I like my strong ABS prints.
