purchase advice for a Printhead
November 23, 2015 08:12AM
Hello,

i am looking for a printhead that i will use in a project for by Baechelor thesis. The printhead will be used stationary (the printhead is fixed and the platform below will move in xyz-axis)
i would appreciate your purchase advice. money is not an issue because my university will pay for almost everything ^_^
you can suggest both single or dual extruders. preference should be high quality printing. speed is not that important. since the printhead is stationary i will not use a direct extruder not a bowden one

would appreciate your advice

greets

Hi,

Well some information is missing.
What is it for ? I mean mecanical parts or figurine production don't have the same needs.
What kind the materials do you want to print with it ?
Do you eventualy want to print with dual colours or soluble support material ?

Assuming you will be printing the usual materials (PLA, ABS, PETG etc.). then for single extrusion I suggest the E3Dv6. For dual extrusion you could use two of them side by side, or the E3D Chimera.

Hi guys,

Dave, I've been printed with two E3D V6, for dual colour only, for a while.
I experienced oozing, not a lot, but still too much, and the use of oozing shield don't allow to cool the part properly.
To me, two nozzles are interesting only if you want to use a soluble material as support on the seccond hotend.
Because you don't mind about oozing contamination, obviously.
When you want that, Two E3D V6 or a E3D chimera works great.
But for two colours, definitely the E3D Cyclops do the job ways better.
I ended with an E3D Legend pack (Chimera + Cyclops) with mostly the Cyclops configuration mounted.
To me it's the way to go if you want dual extrusion.
But as you still have a reduced contamination from one filament to another with the cyclops,
I believe there's no perfect way to go for dual extrusion.

JM, oozing in multiple nozzle systems is not a problem if you control the nozzle temperatures properly. See my comment in response to your post in another thread.
