the datasheet for my steppers says A+ A- B+B- but the ramps board is A1 A2 B1 B2 what polarity are A and B 1 and 2 ?

It doesn't matter, because if you reverse the wiring to both coils, the step direction does not change.

just keep one coil on 2B and 2A second coil on 1A and 1B. if it goes the wrong way turn invert in firmware or turn your plug around 180 degrees
