Infrared sensor gives very low readings

basically it gives me a reading between 8-250 unless the paper is right under the sensor then its like 920 so trying to calibrate the z home dosent work because its not enough of a difference in the readings and if i try to home x near the build plate it dosent work either. i tried lining the little sensor area with black tape but it made a small difference if any the sensor isnt toast because i can get a reading over 900 if the paper is touching the sensor .. any ideas?

I suggest you ask this in the Ormerod forum, you are likely to get more responses there. It sounds to me that the sensor is working, but you are trying to use it the wrong way. Perhaps the contents of your homing files are incorrect.
