Rods are getting rusty

Assembling is delayed due to some reasons but some amount of rust has started developing on rods.
How to avoid this ??
Shall i apply any available rust prevention liquid or is there any specific grade of this ?
Please help

throw out rods... now thay are damaged you cant do anytihng... damage is done. (unless you like the pattern of the rust in all your prints)

Get real harded chrome plated rods. they are a lot harder and dont rust.

You didn't say whether the rust had developed on the smooth or threaded rods in your printer, and a picture would better describe the situation rather than "some amount of rust".

In any case, carbon steel rusts (oxidizes) unless it is protected by either galvanizing (zinc plating) or a lubricant. Stainless steel actually also rusts, only a lot slower, so either chrome plating or again a lubricant are required to actually protect it.

A whiff of WD40 is certainly better than nothing, better advice depends on you posting more details of your rust problem.

Surface rust can be easily cleaned. Often it will be enough spraying with some WD40 and passing a cloth with a firm hand. The WD40 that will be left on the rod should protect it.

If that does not do the trick you can use very fine emerald paper.

You can refer to the maintenance of a lathe which also have many exposed steel parts. There are oils which are better at the protection and lubrication part of the job then WD40.

Note, though, that WD-40 is NOT a lubricant. It's a "water displacer," as the "WD" says. This means it'll get rid of and prevent rust, but it won't lubricate like oil.
