In need of Prusa I2 X-Ends
September 22, 2014 01:33AM
The X-Ends on my Prusa I2 SAE broke after long time use, and I have no way of printing a new set. If someone would be willing to print me a pair for some money that would be great! I can cover all shipping charges. Comment how much it would cost you to print a set and I'll message you back!

I have a pair that are unused. But tell us where you are located. Because shipping can be expensive for some parts of the world

Ok, I live in Norway, so that's gonna be expensive shipping.
Hope you find someone closer that can send you the parts. A clever tip is to print spare parts for your printer as soon as you get it up and running again smiling smiley

Have you had a go glueing them back together and reinforcing with cable ties?
Or maybe glue them and reinforce with sugru. Sugru.com
Had to cable tie mine back together when in a similar situation to you.
I managed to cable tie the broken one in such a way that i cojld print the replacement.
It doesnt have to look good. Just strong enough to do that important print.
If you have to cut it apart afterwards it doesnt matter.

Have you got a pic of the broken parts?
Maybe we can suggest a temporary fix.

Sorry im in the UK so to far to help otherwise.

What type of glue do you recommend? I used hot glue, and they seem pretty secure but idk if they will hold for the 4 hours it would take to print them.

If they are abs then ordinary superglue/crazy glue.
Some people use acetone I've heard.
Whatever glue you use strapping it up with cable ties can help with stremgth.
Sugru I recomended, which is available on the high street in the uk now, not sure about us. Is a self setting Plasticy rubber that ypu can use to build up arpund the x end to strengthen it.

It all depends where its broken.

On mine it was at the bottom of where the lm8uu bearings that go on the smooth rods.
There was still a bridge of plastic so I was able to pull it together with a cable tie and I was able to print both x ends annd it was still secure.

Exactly how broken are your parts?

They are cracked on the part that holds the pulley for the x belt. They are broken where the z bearings are held as a post against the x end plate.

Sounds like it was smilar to mine if I read the description right but on the other end.

The cable tie pulled the break together.
No glue and it was strong enough to replace the part.
I printed both ends just in case.

Maybe it will give you an idea to temporarily fix yours.

I secured mine like you did, the break was pretty similar. I'm going to try to print a set today.

Good luck.
I'm finding I have to fix something on a weekly basis.
Last week was my x-end like you.
Plus yhe olastic guides on the idlers, changed to metal washers now.
Today was the nozzle thermister.
Luckily I had a spare.
Seems you need a whole second printer for spares.
I've printed a spare set of plastics now.
Oh well, I like a chalange.
