Ho do you measure belt tension?

Hi All

I'm struggling with distorted circles on my reprappro mendel and am assuming it is a belt tension issue causing backlash (I'm also getting a gap between infil and perimeter). I'm finding it hard to find out how tight the belts should be in any quantifiable way and this leads me to ask if there is a way of quantifying belt tension? If the anser is yes how tight should the belts be?

Thanks

John

Usually, I would manually turn the steppers step by step (with everything off) and check if each step translates a movement to the belt. If it doesn't, then it should be tightened. If you're lazy, you could print some belt tensioner from thingiverse. I have seen some peeps using them.

I get mine as tight as I can.

I read somewhere you should be able to pluck them like a guitar string, every now and then they appear to stretch slightly or my mounts move ??
(who knows ?) but I loosen the mounts and retighten them till I can pluck them again.
