I reversed Y-axis, software fix?
October 17, 2013 03:50PM
Hello!

I have reversed my Y-axis, and I forgot untill I was printing some text today...

Reason for why I reversed the axis is that I would like to have motor and power input on the back side of my printer and LCD + USB on the front side.

Wait.

Maybe I can switch it back, but write in the end.gcode to move the Y to max (min is endswitch)? Hmm, i might have found a way...

I wounder, is there a way I can reverse the Y-axis without rotating the stepper wires and moving the end switch over to the other side?

All suggestions are appreciated!

Regards

You can reverse the Y direction in firmware, just change the following line:
#define INVERT_Y_DIR
You can also change the endstop to be at the max instead of min by changing the following line:
#define Y_HOME_DIR

That is assuming you are using Marlin firmware. Others should be similar.

I have tried to change the values now, but the board will not move to home if I change:

#define Y_HOME_DIR -1

to:
#define Y_HOME_DIR 1

You will also need to have the endstop plugged into Y max on RAMPS instead of Y min.

Y axis is still not moving sad smiley

I have changed:
#define INVERT_Y_DIR (from false to true)
#define Y_HOME_DIR (from -1 to 1)
Moved the endstop contact from - to +

Found an easier solution. Changed everything back to original and edited the end.gcode to move the print foreward at the end.

Sometimes its easier to think simply!
