X/Y Going to endstops during print

X/Y Going to endstops during print
September 16, 2013 12:05PM
My printer is sometimes, randomely stopping the print and then an axis is going home to endstop in the middle of a print. Several times. Then continuing again. Sometimes it is the X axis, sometimes the Y axis. Up to several times for each layer.

Any clues on what this might be?
I have tried to search the internet, I have tried to adjust the trimpots (vref) on my pololu`s.

My mendelmax: Arduino mega, ramps, pololu...

Really happy if anyone have some suggestions on what it might be!

Mmm, I wonder if the buffer is running empty occasionally?

So I should try printing from my copmuter?

I`ll give it a try!

Up to now I have been printing from SD.

I just had a 2.5hrs successful print from computer, what can I do to solve my problem, so I can print from SD again?

Will reinstalling the program on the arduino help?

Haven't got round to SD card operation yet so not sure. I did read somewhere in the wiki that certain cards are unsuitable. You could try another card if you have one - nick the one out of your digital camera!
...or maybe the SD card contacts on the PCB are a bit dodgy?

Well, I have tested with different SD cards, none of them worked...

I discovered another ting though, the axis are not only going to min (endstop), but they are going to max as well.

During a test, the X-axis went to max, then jumped over some steps (belt?) and thereafter, the print was badly offset.

Ill see if it might be that the cable from sd reader and down to my arduino is too long, I think I have red about that somewhere. I have some shorter cables lying around!

Success!

Looks like a the wire for my sd card was too long...
