The future of 3d Printing

I am just now getting into the curiosity of 3d Printing and what all the future concepts can come out with the technology now that these printers have come down in price greatly.

I found one link on youtube where a Dutchman had turned a robotic pain arm into a 3d plastic extruder for 3d printing. He was using this in his vid on making plastic chairs. As far as I know of his is the largest 3d printer made.
That being said if they become even bigger what would the plastic extruder companies have to say about that.
Specially if that one 3d printer isn't tied down to just one or two printing projects.

example....a power boat or some other water craft. Heck even aircraft hulls?

I'm here in the south end of Winston Salem, Nc 27107 zip code....just FYI.

I've wondered about using an armature instead of a Cartesian system. Do you think it could be done inexpensively?
