I've had mine installed for a few days now. Went together real well. I had a problem with the threading on one of the supplied screws, but I had a spare from some other project handy, and the slot for the washer wasn't clean cut, but a minute with a needle file fixed that right up. The arm looks real sharp on the printer now, can easily see how much more rigid it is than the old acrylic assembly.

i've had to file some edges where the bearings run but otherwise very well made.

Hi Dave,

I am really interested in the X-arm upgrade kit for the Ormerod2 but you do not have Namibia listed on your site :-( Any chance you can add Namibia, Windhoek to the list.

Thanks and keep well.

Any chance you can point me to a picture or DXF link so I can know exactly what part this is please ??

I will have a look at it then

I think he meant to say Z-foot but the original should be extended and fixed to the z-extrusion with two screws to have any meaningful function

Yes, I could not find the proper word in English. This would help for better aligned between axis at 90 degrees.

Yes I can make that part easily if wanted.

The dimensions in Ormerod168's post are most helpful,

What would the thickness be, 3mm??

If wanted I can work out a price but it won't be much, less than £10 anyway.

...What would the thickness be, 3mm??

Dave

Mine was made 4mm to give full support for the screw head when countersunk, also note that I have added a 2mm "set square plate" in between the Z and Y extrusion (and bolted those together)...and I started with a length of recycled aluminium in 4mm x 20mm so had to clean up the sides, therefore the my total size of the part is 62 x 19mm and therefore the distance to the T-nutted screw was offset 2mm

so without that spacer the measurements of the part is simply 4mm x 20mm x 60, center distance between the holes 20mm, 10mm from end

and when mounting, first tighten (very hard) the 2 countersunk screws, pull the z-extrusion up against the Y-extrusion (C-clamp) and last thing tighten the free floating screw with T-nut

This will secure the Z-extrusion properly at the bottom, the printed parts and the weight of the X-axis should be enough to keep the upper part fixed under normal conditions... unless you want to turn the printer upside down, then I would recommend pulling the extrusions together with screw and T-nut, but who in their right mind would do a thing like that?

If you do not mod anything it is important that the thickness is equal with the original thickness otherwise you would not have a stable stand.

Slicer: Simplify3D 4.0; sometimes CraftWare 1.14 or Cura 2.7
Delta with Duet-WiFi, FW: 1.20.1RC2; mini-sensor board by dc42 for auto-leveling
Ormerod common modifications: Mini-sensor board by dc42, aluminum X-arm, 0.4 mm nozzle E3D like, 2nd fan, Z stepper nut M5 x 15, Herringbone gears, Z-axis bearing at top, spring loaded extruder with pneumatic fitting, Y belt axis tensioner
Ormerod 2: FW: 1.19-dc42 on Duet-WiFi. own build, modifications: GT2-belts, silicone heat-bed, different motors and so on. Printed parts: bed support, (PSU holder) and Y-feet.
Ormerod 1: FW: 1.15c-dc42 on 1k Duet-Board. Modifications: Aluminium bed-support, (nearly) all parts reprinted in PLA/ ABS, and so on.

Not a problem

1) the Ormerod stand on 3 points (the two front tip of acrylic end parts and the part of z-lower mount that grips around the smooth rod) so always stable

2) z-foot in 4mm will still leave the z-lower mount as the lowest point

3) lot of folks mount vibration dampers under their printers anyway

That is way I said no modifications. But do you know anybody who uses these stands? (I should consider deleting my signature before anybody sees my modifications... grinning smiley )

Thank you - took me some time, hate wasting time fiddling with the same problems over and over again and would rather pay that time forward so for me it was time well spend, but without dc42's support of the community and R&D of the firmware and probe I would never have invested that time, was very close to return the printer to RS in a box, but as it all turned out I ended up with two Ormerod printers, the beauty and the beast :-)

Arms I have, but any other part like tne one above interests me. I have had enough if fragility of abs. The or,erod,is much more sensitive to it than, say, my modified Mendel.
Treito, the only printer I never modified is my formlabs.

Look at my signature. I have much modifications and my new Ormerod will not be anyhow better. This one will be extremely modified as I did not get any Acrylic parts (yet) or other individual parts (except for the hobbit insert).

I reprinted parts in abs and got alu arms before ordering the kit .... If I coukd, I would mod the form too, but it make little sense.
I believe the ormerod is fun to change as it is easier than the Mendel or a Kossel. :-) even if it s single side design is not my fav.
