additional links in the header

Hi All. How hard would it be to add some additional link buttons in the header bar at the top of the forum page? Is this an easy thing? I am imagining something that would look kind of like this (see below).

You could add stuff into header.tpl in phorum/templates/emerald/ into the div section <div id="logo"> as this is the top logo bar shown on every page.

Worthwhile having a separate backup of this too as it might get blown away during a future upgrade.

Yes, indeed a nice idea!

I volunteer for the technical part; who makes the graphics? Ideally, one graphic with transparency for the whole button-covered part of the bar.

Is that the best idea?

We could just use the teardrop image logo, and do the rest in actual text perhaps (it is just a Sans Bold font after all)? That'd make it dead easy to turn each part into links, and it'll be readable/navigable even with screen/voice readers.

FWIW: How about keeping the emerald theme top bar and using a white teardrop gif/png, with white text for each section following it?

Anyway, attached are:
White teardrop gif:
White teardrop png
White teardrop on top border
White teardrop on top border with "RepRap" after it

I don't know if the border is the "same" height as it appears above. I think so, but not 100% sure. If these aren't suitable, happy to knock something else up. Just a note that I'm no graphic artist tho.

PS: Transparent PNG's don't work in all browsers. How much we care is another thing entirely. winking smiley

FWIW: I'll do some more with a 1px green border around them as well, which should work on any background, like the attached teardrop.

Is there a reason that the RepRap blog is not included in the top banner?

IMO, the blog is not really being actively maintained. Secondly, the posts aren't what I would consider an accurate cross section of what the community is up to.

That said if anyone that has the power to change the banner wants an additional button I can easily provide the art.

I didn't think that a link to the blog was necessary because:

1) There are already links to the most recent blog entries on the main page of the wiki (under "News Feed"), in addition to a direct link to blog.reprap.org

2) Blog updates are few and far between

But I don't have especially strong opinions about it one way or the other...
