Guard loop GND wiring?
August 28, 2012 03:20PM
What should happen with wires 15 & 16 on the 20 way ribbon cable? The wiki build manual says
they are "Guard loop GND" and with a pic "Note the two guard wires linked together and insulated. "
Does this mean solder them together & insulate the join?
Where do the other ends go? Into any GND on the controller board?

Also what they for - reduce stray inductance?

Thanks.

Yes

Yes

My theory is that it reduces the inductive coupling between the motor wires and the limit switch by separating them by a shorted turn. Without the short it only gives capacitive screening.

Whether the theory is correct or not, it seems to work in practice.
