Mondrian M222 Motors On Corners Vs Foldarap Mendel moving motor

Hi there,

I wanted to know if there was any drawback to the M222 design files, the ones where the Y-axis is driven by two stationary motors in comparison to the main design files that use the Foldarap Mendel mounts where both of the motors move with the X-axis.

e.g.

M222 Stationary Motors

vs
Mondrian Moving Motors

I personally perfer the stationary mounts as it is a bit easier to control the cables but wanted to know what you all thought or if there is a reason it changed?

One of the reasons for the moving motors was to make it more modular and to shorten the lenght of the belt, as this design is intented to be scaled up easily, and ultimately replacing belts by printed rack&pinion

But both solutions are working fine smiling smiley

Are you still prototyping the rack/pinion design?

Emmanuel,

Thank you for the clarification. It is great to know that they both work well.

When all my various parts arrive from around the world I'll post a build log for other to have a look at. I'll also create a visual BOM.

Cool !

With the current development in Italy and France the wiki will need to be re-organized to show all the options that modularity allow to choose from smiling smiley

I've recently switched to the M222 based design motor mounts. I really like how tidy it makes the machine in comparison to the belt-rack and pinion design. Did you do anything special to keep the wires tidy on the moving motors design? Keep up the awesome work!
