Killer Feature Request: Variable Layer Speed Print

Hi All,

My idea is to have an option to use variable layer slicing for objects that have both sections of vertically straight walls and angles sloping up or down.

For an object, imagine a cylinder with a rounded top.

During the slicing process, as we slice the cylindrical part, the layer hull is the same as for the next few layers, then we make those layers thicker for faster printing.
For the rounded top, we use thinner layers for a smoother top.

Thanks for your consideration,
BrendaEM

Hi,

1.2.9 does not seem to have anything like that.

That's interesting, there a manual page, but I see no GUI anything for it on the layer tab, where it would make sense to live.
Is it implemented in builds?
Is it automatic, or user adjustable?

It's been there ever since I've been using the program.

It is user-adjustable. The approach they suggest on the manual page is to double-click on the part you want to change in the Plater window. Right-clicking on it and choosing Settings gets you to the same place.

You have to turn on expert mode. Go to the file menu, select preferences, then select expert mode. You'll have to restart Slic3r for the mode change to take effect. Then you'll be able to adjust layer thickness by Z axis position.
