Solid top layer

Hi all,

Recently I have started a print-to-fit configuration challenge for myself.
My goal is to print items that will fit perfectly.

I am using a Prusa i3 with a 0.35 nozzle.

While doing so I have been following a few guides on the web: [reprap.org] and [github.com]

After these guides my configuration looked like this:
Filament size: 2.9
Extrusion Multiplier: 0.7

After changing those settings I noticed that the top of my prints where not solid anymore, therefore I have been changing the top solid extrusion width..
But without any luck:

After some more tweaking the top looks like this:

But still I can not get it to be solid.
I have also tried using multiple (up to 6) top layers.

What can I do to finish this challenge and print to fit with a great result?

Use this guide for calibration: [reprap.org]
You need to extrude more filament. Increase the multi.

I have had great results with top layer smoothing by changing the top layer extrusion width to 75% in Slic3r. It completely closes the top layer with a fine pattern in just two layers.

Best way to use Slic3r is with a default width. The width is dependend on your nozzle size. In most cases you use your nozzle size for the default width. If you use this, reducing the width to 75% is not a good option.
You can not print 0.3mm width with a 0.4mm nozzle. Or in this case 0.26mm width with a 0.35mm nozzle.

Will take a look at the guide, but when I increase the multi the perimetric width calibration will fail again..
