Finding the right slicer program
September 22, 2014 10:16PM
Hey guys,

So the issue I am having is that I can't seem to get a slicer program to work the way I want. With slic3r I actually get a print but the amount of imperfection and the random start point patterns have been getting to me. I heard great things about KISSlicer but I can't seem to get the settings right to actually print something correctly, it never seems to make a complete print. The attached picture shows the random gaps. Then Cura actually gives me something I can print and it does not have the random start positions of slic3r but it doesn't seem to work with my auto bedleveling. It probes the 4 locations and when it prints it doesn't lower the z-axis at all.

Does anyone have advice to fix any of these issues or another slicer program they like.

Thanks

Hi sodonnell!

I don't quite understand what your object is supposed to look like,
can you attach your Slic3r profile and that STL file for comparison?

Perhaps that random start point pattern problem is caused by this setting:
Print Settings->Layers and perimeters->Advanced->Seam position->Random

In slic3r the only options I have under printer settings, advanced, are 3 check boxes. That say Avoid crossing perimeters, external perimeters first, and spiral vase.

Attached is a copy of the stl of the print I tryed in kisslicer.

Thanks!!!

The object slices fine on my setup:

I am using Slic3r 1.1.7 stable:

I have attached the used Slic3r profile to this message,
if you are also running 1.1.7 you might find the problem.

Thanks 3D-ES

I am running a much older version of Slic3r. I'm going to update to 1.1.7 and see how it goes.
