Spiral vase mode, speed slows down for the spiral part

I've tried the spiral vase mode a few times, with absolutely awesome results, but there's one odd thing; after the bottom layers are done and the spiraling begins it's slooooooow, maybe 10mm second or so (the perimeter settings in Slic3r are for 100mm/s), so I have to manually crank up the speed with a M220 Sxxx command on Pronterface. I'm printing a vase right now and, increased the speed to 350% and it's chugging along nicely.

One thing I just found out is that it's not a good idea to increase the speed too abruptly, I went from 100% to 200% in one step and when the change happened it left a tiny pin hole in the print in an otherwise flawless surface. Maybe better to increase in 50% steps.

Of course the better option would be to get the right speed in the GCode itself, any suggestions?
