No extrusion!! someone help please!
January 12, 2012 07:43PM
Hi everyone, I am having problem generating G-code. I tried Repsnapper, and Skeinforge, they all worked but not well, so I am trying new G-code generater. Slic3r seems very nice(by looking at the model it generated...), but when I print it, my extruder does not run. and I checked everything... obversely nothing worked. Does anyone have the answer? or suggestions?

... I have to set the 'dimension' checkmark to active the extruder in printrun/pronterface - maybe same issue with slic3r?

Does your extruder run in Pronterface - Extrude/reverse?

What firmware are you running?

Do you have the Extrusion axis set to 'E' in Slic3r? make sure it's not 'E0' or 'E1' or 'A'

Can you post your config.ini?

These are the configurations(see picture), basicly all default.. And my extruder worked on Printrun(extrude and reverse), Repetier, Repsnapper, and I don't think there is a problem with my extruder.
I figured out that the G-code that Slic3r generated only have X,Y,Z(sometimes),E, only have F in the beginning. for example:

G1 X59.627 Y58.528 F900.000 E13.04577
G1 X60.127 Y58.148 E13.08271
G1 X60.387 Y57.978 E13.10098
G1 X65.207 Y55.388 E13.42278
G1 X65.517 Y55.248 E13.44278
_____________________________________
And the G-code that Repsnapper generated(which work for me) use to have F all the time. Example:
G1 X94.34 Y24.61 Z0.4 F960.0 E98.202
G1 X94.34 Y28.89 Z0.4 F960.0 E102.482
G1 X84.33 Y28.89 Z0.4 F960.0 E112.491
G1 X79.33 Y34.89 Z0.4 F960.0 E120.301
G1 X76.14 Y34.89 Z0.4 F960.0 E123.492
G1 X76.14 Y50.25 Z0.4 F960.0 E138.854
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does that have anything to do with my problem?

It looks like you have your firmware E_STEPS_PER_MM set up for the old system where it was mm of extruded filament. It should be for mm of filament pulled into the extruder, which is about 36 times bigger.

You can see the E values from Slic3r are increasing by small amounts, whereas the Repsnapper E values change by the same amount as XY.

THEN change your E_STEPS_PER_MM to the proper value for your extruder motor and gearing.
See the Volumetric Dimension settings article in the RepRap wiki.
