Extruder skipping steps, what current should I use for my extruder

I have a dual direct drive bowden system which eventually starts skipping steps. I have the current adjusted to 0.9 volts on both stepper drivers for the extruders and 0.45 for the axes. What is the best current setting for a non geared bowden extruder?

Impossible to answer, since every type of driver has it's own calculation for Vref. Even A4988 are known to exist in three different versions...
