PLA Printing issues
March 17, 2017 03:08AM
Hi,

We are facing few printing issues in PLA material. Only the first layer is printing properly and then it dry runs. Our machine is Accucraft 250D with dual extruder.
Setttings:
bed temperature:65 C
Extruder: 200 C

Any suggestions for the settings? Please suggest any additional settings for the same

Have you callibrated the extruder ? Slicers normally set the 1st layer to over extrude (helps 1st layer adhesion to bed),

Yes, I have calibrated the extruder. For 5-6 layers it is printing properly, then dry run issue. We first thought that its the material problem, but the problem exists for other PLA spool also.

PLA is the hardest plastic to extrude for the hotend. It softens at relatively low temperatures (around 60C), swells and produces very high friction against the walls of the throat. It is easiest to extrude with a hotend that takes the ptfe liner right to the junction with the nozzle. For hotends that don't do this you need to have the throat very well polished with no gaps in the area where the PLA gets warm enough to soften. A marginal hotend can sometimes be persuaded to work with pla if you use a piece of foam on the filament before it enters the hotend, and add a few drops of cooking oil to the foam. (search thingiverse for filament dust filter for examples).

Thank you for the cooking oil suggestion. I will try out this thing and hope it works then.smiling smiley

Infused with chilli, extra ooompf for struggling hotend..smiling smiley
Wondering if Rape seed oil might be a good choice...less smoke.
