I'm having issues with layer consistency, any ideas?

I'm having issues with layer consistency, any ideas?

I have uploaded some photos of the issues.

PLA is not too bad, but it's terrible when printing with abs.

Thanks for any ideas

looks like your underextruding to me.
Have you done a calibration on the extruder?

I have done a few calibrations, if I extrude more I get bulging layers.

If it is an extruding issue it's almost like it starts the layer extruding the proper amount, then gradually gets to thin.

When I print with supports as columns there are spots where the column layers are just a few globs of material, then it gradually gets back the way it should be.

Maybe it's my steppers? Or ramps skipping steps?

Do you have some fresh ABS to try? I recently had an underextrusion issue with PETG that seems to have gone away when I switched to a fresh roll, and I believe moisture might have been the problem. You could also try drying your ABS for a couple of hours on your heated bed.

I thought of that, so i ordered two new rolls of ABS, but same results. I even got a different brand thinking that may be different.

Could be idler pressure or temperature related. By the looks of the pics I would say your ABS extrusion temp is too low

The following is taken from the Triffid Hunter's calibration guide on the wiki

1) Choose a fairly simple model that's large enough that you can clearly see the infill while it's printing

2) Make sure your hobbed bolt's teeth are clean of debris such as chunks of plastic

3)Make sure your idler is tight! really tight! "it hurts my fingers to pull on it and I still can't move it" tight! A too-loose idler gives exactly the same symptoms as too low temperature.
Start printing

4) Lower temperature by 5° every 2-3 layers

5) When infill starts being a row of dots instead of a line, increase temperature by 10°.

6) Keep monitoring print, increase by 5° if your infill goes dotty again If you find that your prints are weak along the layer lines or even delaminate mid-print, you may need to go higher again. With ABS, wrapping your printer in a towel helps a LOT by keeping out draughts and breezes- but beware any
PLA parts caught within!

7) Store or remember that temperature for that type of filament

Do a hollow cylinder d=20mm, h=30, 0 top layers, 1 bottom layer, 5mm skirt, set spiral mode and print it. Then take it and see it though light.
Do it 1) PLA no heated bed 2) PLA heated bed 3) ABS
Ideally they should be uniform, not banding.
Post or describe results.
