Hotend temperature oscillating after replacing thermistor
October 18, 2016 07:59AM
I replaced my hotend thermistor (E3D-v5 based) for another one with the same specifications (100k, beta 3950).
After that, the hotend temperature oscillates a lot after reaching the target temperature.
When I set 230C, it keeps oscillating +-10C.
I ran the PID autotune but it didn't help. I tried increasing the integral gain, but it didn't work either.

Any tips?

Thanks.

Make sure it is tightly coupled to the heater block and that the wires are solidly connected.

Checked the wires, the connection is fine.
The heater element is secured by the screw on the bottom of the heater block.

After you ran PID autotune, did you modify the config file with the new P, I, and D values?

Yes, I modified the values.
I'm running some tests and apparently it's a thermistor fault. If I move the cable a bit the readings become inconsistent. I will try replacing it.
Thanks.

I have run into a similar problem after replacing the thermistor in my E3D v6 with one of the new, cartridge type thermistors. They ship with a crimped connector on the thermistor leads and I think the crimping is the problem because shifting the connector seems to restore stable operation for a while. I'm going to chop out the connector and solder or at least crimp wires to the thermistor leads.
