parameters to improve the look of my printed object
May 26, 2016 05:51AM
Hi, I finished to build my printer, so I start to print a coffee cup (PLA)
I tried many times and each time I have the same problem.
my cup looks bad, it seems like a wicker basket. (a picture is attached).
Do you know what parameters do I have to change to print a good object?
Thank you,

I assume you already calibrated the machine, like steps, extrusion parameters and such?
There is no point in changing any settings on a machine that is not calibrated to perform to specs winking smiley

Thank for your answer. I have already calibrate my printer ( as I can). I have the feeling that the skin of my coffe cup isn't smooth. The thread doesn't mix well with the other layers.
Is it a problem of temperature or speed of my extruder ?
I try different temperature for the PLA but the result is the same.

Can you provide the temperature, layer height, nozzle size and printing speed?

To be honest your print does not look like anything was calibrated properly, at least not the extrusion parameters.
I would start with some of the readily available testobject on Thiniverse and other sites to test and confirm all is set up properly before printing something of actual use.

Thank you for your answer.
I think you are right, I have a bad calibration for my extruder.
I change the value in the firmware :
#define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT {78.74, 78.74, 2560, 1142}

When I ask 50mm of thread in repetier, my printer give me 50mm.
But when I ask 100mm of thread in repetier, my printer give me only 70mm. The reason is because my motor miss some steps (kind of small jump).
I try to resolve this problem. My noozle is clean. the temperature is 195°. I try to increase the voltage in the A4988 card : 0,8V ->1V. At 1V, my motor vibrates.
My extruder doesn't have a screw to modify the gap between Philip screw and gear.

Do you have an idea to resolve this problem ?
Thank you
