Warping of the Bottom layer
September 17, 2015 05:10AM
Hello,

I'm currently working with a new builder 3D printer at work.
There ad adhesion problems due to warping.

This what i'm working with:

The printer
Fillament: MP Flex65
Temperture: 240 C
unheated bed with Kapton tape.
gap set at : 0.2 mm
bottomlater speed: 18 mm/s
Printspeed: 42 mm/s
no cooling

any advice would be highly appreciated

Recommended is a heated bed @ 100°C.
All you can do is to experiment with different tape, glue and print settings - or get a heated bed.

Hi, thanx for the advice.

would adding cooling after the bottom layer help ?

That totally depends but until the first layer sticks properly you don't really have to worry about it.

Try to go down a bit on the thickness of the first layer, try 0.15 mm. Also a wider extrusion width on the first layer,150-200%, can help. Have you measured the first layer and verified that it actually is 0.2 mm?

Cheers!

Hello!

I'm going to test thes esettings and see what the results are.
The first layer will also be measrured

If in doubt and you only want to test other things than the first layer adhesion, try double sided tape, like used for carpets.
Especially for low temp materials this can help, apart from the mess of removing.

Hello ,

After making some adjustment i have achieved a good print.

I reduces the gap between the nozzle and the bottom later to 0,15mm
Printspeed: 20 mm/s
Bottom layer speed: 18 mm/s
Incremental cooling
Nozzle temperture: 245ºC
layer height: 0.2mm

with these settings it was possible to get a good stick at the bottom layer smileys with beer

So no special surface or treatment, just proper printer setup !?
Can you show off some pict of the finnished print?
Or a short video? I guess people would like to see the properties of the material...

My end conclusion for this material is this: It sucks.

MP Flex 65 is not recommendedthumbs down

Why? Just because it prints slow? I get an excellent stick on vinyl at low speeds, I sometimes have trouble getting the vinyl off the flex material. I used flex 45 though. I print with 30mm/s for perimeters and 35mm/s for infill, first layer at 30mm/s. I usually use 15mm/s but because it stuck too well to vinyl I opted to increase the speed. Now it's easier to remove while its bonded strong enough not to warp.

I find if with PLA Prusa I3 if I use blue masking tape and clean it with rubbing alcohol before printing, I get better adhesion. I do extruder temparature of 210C and bed temparature of 60C. YMMV

I use this stuff, its cheap and worked really well as advertised, I tried all 3 material they listed and all worked out perfect, 8 euro a pack goes a long way, I used just little under half the pack and I got 40+ prints out of it so far, with the biggest part being 185mm x 185mm x 185mm in size, not exactly a square box but it was that big, start to finish not a single lift

can't find link I bought it from, but same shop relisted it
