Calibration print issues
July 13, 2015 01:18PM
Hi,

I have recently finished building my Ormerod 2 printer, followed the instructions, but I am struggling with the printing output.

Please look at the picture attached, you will see that the X axis is more condense than the Y axis, and I am getting oval-like shapes instead of circles.

I have tried correcting this by adjusting the step/mm using code M92, but it hasn't work.

Please I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you,

Ricard

Did you save the new values from M92 into the eeprom?
If not there is no change.
It is best to have some digital calipers for the initial setup and calibration as otherwise you are running in circles for weeks.

Saved the values on the config.g file.

Tried different values and saw changes, but not solve the problem.

Printing ovals with kinks in like that instead of circles is a classic sign of one of the following:

1. Slipping X or Y belt. Y axis belt slippage was common on the Ormerod 1, but I believe they changed to a better design in the Ormerod 2. A very loose belt could have the same effect.

2. Pulley grub screw not tightened sufficiently against the flat of the stepper motor spindle.

Tightened grub screws and Y axis belt and it now prints much better.

Thank you dc42

I will now be able to complete the calibration.
