Layer Orientation, help!
May 26, 2015 04:13PM
Hi there,

I am conducting a polymer layer-layer interface research on 3D printed objects. and trying to orient a 2-layered object (sheet),
the layers need to be parallel to each other for the purposes of the research. In other word, both layers need to be printed on a 90 degrees fashion.

I played around with Slic3r, but was only getting a 90 deg printed layerr followed by a 0 deg. So they would
interchange and cross each other. How can i orient them all in the same fashion?

I tried different combinations but failed!!
Attached the Gcode used

Thanks,

Sorry mate but ya lost me.

Two layers parallel is not same as two layers at 90 degrees.

Example: = parallel. + is 90 degrees rotated.

hey mate,

What i want here is to have 2 layers printed in the same orientation. It's true that
the layers themselves regardless of orientation are going to be parallel but not uni-oriented.
instead, i want the all the extruded filament to be parallel to one another.
Thanks for pointing it out..

Like this?

2 layers (.3mm, .52mm nozzle, ABS), needs more extrusion overlap. Used Simplify3D; two infill layers--one at 0 degrees, other at 180 degrees.

How did you do that Donald? Handcrafted g-code?

Handcrafted g-code??? Ha, ha....

No, just one of the settings in Simplify3D.

Just like that.. appreciate it, is there a way to accomplish the same results on slic3r ?
wasnt able to get my hands on Simplify3D

Thanks,

DonaldJ,

I use Simplify3d and my infill is composed out of 4 different angles, I get really strong parts.

mturson,

Don't think you can do it in slic3r, it automatically sets the next layer in the opposite angle. If you don't mind, why you need the part to be printed that way? It will come apart when you handle it like in Donald picture.

Either me or Donald can slice the part that way so you can print it, but unless you printed out of ABS,let it pop out by itself and handle it like a baby it will brake apart quite easily.

I am studying the interfacial energy between the two layers. and how the polymer chains would diffuse into one another.
how to improve it with changing variables.
Need this orientation to conduct the experiment.

would be greatly appreciate it.. if you could provide the G-code
need two layers roughly 0.3-0.4 mm thick each
length: 70mm
width: 20 mm

Need the info from your printer, built size, center location and which is your inverted axis and start G code sequence. I assume you want the infill going in the 70mm direction?
