Weird problem with printing detail

So the prints are with abs, the light blue is from my makibox printer which looks ok.
The dark blue is from a reprap newly flashed with marlin, 3mm abs 232-236 degC, 90degC bed.
Using Cura 30mm/sec speed, 1.5mm retract but also tried 4mm at 36mm/s

The first prints I ever did were 25% too big but the finish was amazing, I did an m92 x... To get x, y and z correct and also the e steps on the extruder and of course m500 to save. Prints are now spot on in terms of size but holes are undersize and there is some nozzle dragging going on.
Great finish on long continuous prints like cubes and cylinders but really bad in small detail areas.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
JB

So I tried slic3r and results were better but still not as good as the makibox printer

It looks like over extrusion to me. In slic3r you can set the extrusion multiplier (Filament Settings menu) to a lower value. Normal is 1 so just based on your print I would try 0.85 to start. Also make sure you measure the filament diameter and put the "actual" size into the slicer.

Much better with 0.9, it looks like 0.85 might be the optimal value, you really have an eye for this stuff thanks !
Btw it measures exactly 3.00mm smiling smiley
