Z Axis Weird Issue

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum so if this is in the wrong place I apologise. Just built a reprap (mix between prusa i2, i3 and my own design) mechanically it works fine but the Z axis is acting weird. When I home the axis it moves fine both up and down (switching the plug around to reverse motor direction) however when I try to manually move the axis or run G-code with pronterface the Nema 17 motor just makes a grinding noise and doesn't turn. I'm running Ramps 1.4.

Anyone got any suggestions? let me know if you need videos/pictures/further details.

The maximum speed setting in your firmware is too high for your motors but the homing speed is within their capability.

Use manual moves at lower speeds to find the speed it is capable of and then set the firmware limit to that.
