Need help with improving print quality
December 16, 2014 12:33AM
I need help in improving the print quality. I have built a Marlin v1 based 3D printer. I've been trying to fine tune the settings in Cura for slicing. I've seen some improvements in the prints by learning from posts on forums. But still, I can't seem to find that "Goldilocks" setting that's just right for my printer. As you can see in the attachments, I have improved the quality to an extent. But I'm stuck at this point.
Below are the settings in Cura 14.09:

Basic:
Layer Height: 0.2mm
Shell Thickness: 0.6mm
Bottom/Top thickness: 0.6mm
Fill density: 80%
Printing speed: 60mm/s
Filament Diameter: 1.75mm
Flow: 100%

Advanced:
Nozzle Size: 0.5mm
Retraction speed: 120mm/s
Distance: 4.5mm
Travel speed: 1500mm/s

I'm ABS for my prints and Repetier v1.0.6 for printing

The prints(I was unable to attach the files with this post.):[1drv.ms]

I can't see your attachment. But!!!

what are you doing smiling smiley)))

retraction speed is to high. set it 30mm/s also distance too.

travel speed is 1.5 m in a second. is a dream bro smiling smiley there is no speed like this motor in the world.( except vehicle or plane motor :p )

if your nozzle diameter is 0.5, you can use 0.3 or 0.35 for best results.

There is a lot of iteration but do it right this settings first. After that, we can talk again.

Thank you & best wishes.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Travel speed is 150mm/s(Typing error, sorry about that). I'll try out the changes and get back.
I also have another issue. The power outputs on RAMPS 1.4, D9 and D8 are not working. Only D10 is working. Please help me out with thissmiling smiley

That's not everytime true. With a DD-Bowden my retract speed is 120mm/s with 4.5mm, when I use a 0.25mm-nozzle at my E3D-V6. If you have a Wade, then 120mm/s is too much.

Shell thickness should be a factor of your nozzle. 0.5 or 1mm in your case.
Also you push too much material. Reduce your flow. You could use the Triffid Calibration Guide for this.

Sorry, yes you right ı missed the point. Thanks smiling smiley

abyss996,

There is to much iteration for improving print quality. Can you share ant photos?

Please take a look at the images and help me out with improving the prints. The orange ones are PLA and the others are ABS. Thank you all for the replies
