Melted my hotend ... need some advice
October 17, 2014 06:47AM
Hi !

I melted my hotEnd, and just wanted to know if i can change just the plastic parts ? (don't know how it's called, English is not my native language and I haven't managed to figure it out yet )
It's a J-Head, see attached picture .
If so, do you know guys where I can order one ?

For those who wanted to know how I got here, and a piece of experience return for others :
I broke a leg of the extruder thermistor, just at the base of it, so I re-soldered it, got a reading of 86 KOhm, and figured it was ok. Now I guess not.
Then I tried warming the nozzle up, saw some smoke and 120-150° and thought it was just the heat-shrink tube which was not happy ...
...So here I am.

Hi,
i offer complete J-Heads in my store, preassembled with Heating cartridge and thermistor.
As far as I see, you have a original version.
Mine are from China. They have a larger heat block. Also the nozzle is a little bit designed different to the original J-Heads.

You find the link to my shop in my signature.

Ok !
There's a hollow screw in the shop, do i need one ? Is it the little part we see on top of the nozzle holder ?
If so, how do you put it here ?
and how can I clean the old metal part ?

(sorry for all those questions, thanks for your replies ! smiling smiley )

Set screw holds PTFE liner in place. Nozzle holder should have threads for it in top of bore and your old one should have one, so check if there is one.
And for cleaning and old good elbow grease smiling smiley
