Question about heat bed and abs printing temps
August 28, 2014 09:50PM
If i set my heat bed to 110. Should i keep it at this for the full print? Or does it need to be lowered after first layer?

Or what are you guys having success with?

I start and remain at 110c durring my prints with ABS.
Ive had bad luck starting at 110c and lowering it to 100c in the past. Once it cools down it starts to pop off the glass.

When I had warping issues with ABS on large parts, I followed some advice on another thread here and changed my bed settings to 115c for the first layer and 85c for the rest, along with switching to glue stick from hairspray. Seemed to solve the warping issues and the parts don't pop off the bed until it is completely cooled. I originally used 115/110 for the bed settings.

I think the reason it probably works is because warping is caused by the temperature difference between the hotter layer on the bed and the cooler layers above. By using a hot temperature for the first layer to increase adhesion, cooling after that reduces the temp difference between the later layers and the first couple layers.
