Heated bed 'power spikes' effects print quality

It turns out that everytime the heated bed switches on/off during print it effects the print. I get some very annoing layer 'banding'.
When i turn the bed OFF my layers are perfectly smooth.
I don't know enough about electronics but could this be the bed draws too much current?

Please help!
Thank you smiling smiley

Could it be that the heatbed expands when it is powered, causing the platform to rise or warp?????

+1 to what vreihen said.

I had the exact same problem, until I enabled PID for the heated bed. [forums.reprap.org]

Thanks for the replies!
i've been playing around with the PID setting without really knowing what I was doing. Maybe i have to look into that a little further..

For now I limited the current going to the bed so that it never reaches target temp, therefor the problem is kinda 'solved'.
But it's a workaround..

thanks again smiling smiley
