Prusa i3 Printing Issues
April 02, 2014 12:21AM
I have a Prusa i3 that I'm trying to tune and the problem I'm running into is that internal shapes are printed fine but external corners and overhangs are extremely sloppy. I'm attaching photos to illustrate my point.

I'm trying to print the precision block from this page: [reprap.org]. I'm able to print the 20mm cube from the same page without any problems whatsoever, but I've had constant problems trying to print the precision block regardless of the slicer software I use (I've tried KISSlicer as well).

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Printer:
MakerFarm Prusa i3

0.35mm nozzle

Quality:
Initial Thickness: 0.0 (same as other layers)
Travel Speed: 150mm/s

Do you have a fan blowing on the part during the print to cool it down ? When using PLA, It might improve your print quality tremendously, avoiding the overhangs to curl up like I see on your pictures.

Most of my technical comments should be correct, but is THIS one ?
Anyway, as a rule of thumb, always double check what people write.

I haven't been using a fan, I'll give that a try. Is there any other reason why the corners on the overhangs droop or not be as sharp as the other corners?

Probably as Deux Vis says - it needs a fan. The problem with areas like that overhang is the print gets very thin there as it rises to its fine edge finish. Rapid cooling at points like that will "arrest" the drooping likelihood before it takes a hold.
