First prints..too hot?

I performed my first prints this last weekend.
The first print wasn't bad, until the X axis started dropping steps. I lowered the current on the motor to address the issue.

The second print dragged a bit of ooze onto one of the edges so I aborted

The thrid print has a bobble going over the edge which made the edge go bumppy on the bottom. Also the bottom layer is thin and has no lines from the extrude path.
Heatbed was 80
extruder was layer 1-205 / others 200

The foruth print I decided to see how a t5 8 tooth gear would print like.

This seems to confirmed that my first layer is too hot, the nut tap and bottom of the center hole are closed. The layer all flowed together
No minimu time per layer eventually caused the part to twist and detach from the platform.

Have I analyzed my failures correctly?

I agree with your analysis. Wish I had been as quick on the uptake when I was first starting out!
