Can someone with more electronics knowledge than me recommend a different MOSFET for the RAMPS board? It looks like the STP55NF06L is completely out of stock from Digikey.

Anyone who can recommend a product that will perform the same will be greatly appreciated.

Yea, I know where to get the exact one from a few places. I am looking for a comparable one that Digikey specifically keeps in stock.

If you looked through the rest of the ramps forum you would see this MTP30N06 mosfet instead of STP55NF06 as the title to this thread [forums.reprap.org]

Saw that, not quite what I am looking for. As you obviously noticed, the posted mentioned that the MTP30N06 he asked about is obsolete at the time of posting. I am looking for a current model or at least the specs that are important.

any TO-220 N-type MOSFET rated for >=60v and >=50A should do.

Look like the STP55NF06 is in stock though, just not de L version.

Awesome. Thanks. I am not electronics savvy enough to know if that mattered.

I'm not sure that is correct. I believe I have read a thread somewhere mentioning not all transistors are capable of running at the frequencies required for PID. A tip120 I believe is only good for bang/bang control. You may want to start a thread in the general electronics forum to confirm.

IRL3803 is my favourite. seems perfectly happy being driven at 62.5KHz PWM direct from my avr's output, and can carry about 15A with no heatsink

I don't think it is a good idea to draw 15A over the ramps board though.

... it's no real issue, when the tracks are wide enough - i have a high-power LED-driver that can output until 100 Watts (or more than 20 Ampere's: [www.linear.com] ) with 4 small SMD-MOSFETS without coolers winking smiley
