Ramps 1.4 With a4998 Driver and Nema 23

Hello,

I am working on a new 3D printer with a stationary bed.
So the X,Z axis are on the Y axis.

I was looking at a nema 23 steppermotor for the Y axis.
I only have seen 3D printers with nema 17.

If the current of a Nema 23 is around 1.5 A. ( [eu.stepperonline.com] )
Can i use then a a4998 stepper driver on the ramps board?
Or are there more specifications i have to look at?

The current would be OK for the A4988, but the stepper is recommended for 24-48V. It will work with 12V too, but max. speed will be reduced then.

You can hack the driver to run with it's own motor voltage , while Ramps still runs on 12V. Just unsolder the Vmot and the next GND pin and feed the driver pins with a separate power supply instead. ( Connect GND from both power supplies )
