RGB LED feedback issue
February 13, 2017 08:24PM
Hi, I'm trying to install a rgb led feedback in my print, but when the led goes white the lcd painel turn off and reset.
I'm using ramps 1.4, and pins 4, 5 and 6 no heatbead, transistor 2N2222.
My rgb led strip is 500mm long and about 0.4A

If I use a mosfet instead will it work?
Thanks

I would use mosfets

You need to add resistors between the RAMPS output pins and the base connections of the transistors. A value of around 330 ohms would be about right. However, given that the voltage regulator in a typical Arduino/RAMPS setup including a graphical LCD is already overheating or on the verge of overheating, it is still likely that even with the resistors the additional current to drive the transistors will cause the regulator to overheat more and cause the display to dim, even if it no longer shuts down the whole board. So either provide a better 5V supply or use mosfets to drive the LEDs
